Health insurance for Parent Boost Visitor Visa applicants

The Parent Boost Visitor Visa was created to support family connection by allowing parents to stay in New Zealand for up to 10 years. A requirement of the visa is insurance; this is to help manage demand on New Zealand's healthcare system. Like most insurance, ParentStay is designed to cover the unexpected and it is an expectation of the visa that visa holders return to their country of origin for any non-essential medical treatment.

The country of origin should be the country listed as your client's last country of residence in their Parent Boost Visitor Visa application or another country they have the rights to return to, such as country of citizenship.
Asia
Includes countries located within the Asian continent, encompassing East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Middle East.
UK/EU
Includes countries within the United Kingdom and countries within or commonly associated with the European Union region.
Other
Includes countries not covered under the USA, UK/EU, or Asia categories - regions such as Africa, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas outside of the United States.
To be eligible for a ParentStay policy, your clients must meet the following criteria:
- Be approved in principle for the Parent Boost Visitor Visa when applying for insurance or hold a valid Parent Boost Visitor Visa.
- Meet Immigration New Zealand’s Acceptable Standard of Health and all other requirements to apply for the Parent Boost Visitor Visa.
Your clients will not be eligible for the ParentStay Health Plan if any of the following apply:
- They are travelling against the advice of their specialist or GP

They have ever been diagnosed with metastatic cancer
- They have been diagnosed with a terminal illness with a life expectancy of less than 24 months
- They have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure
- They have ever had a valve replacement
- They have ever had an organ transplant
- They are using home oxygen for any medical condition
- They require full-time assistance to undertake any activities of daily living.
