Stay on top of your skin health
UniMed is proud to partner with SkinVision to provide our Members with access to a mobile app that will enable you to take control of your skin health and support you in detecting skin cancer early.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand and can be highly treatable if detected early.
Download the SkinVision app now using our exclusive code for UniMed Members.

How it works
- Download the SkinVision app to your smartphone by either:
- Scanning the QR code with your smartphone, which will take you to Google Play or the App Store
- Going to this web page to get the link for either Google Play or the App Store
- Once the app has downloaded, open the app and click "get started". You will need to sign up with your name, email, and date of birth. Ensure to enter the promo code UniMed25SV if it has not automatically been added.
- Once you have signed up, you can begin using the app! Just scan your skin spot(s) using the app, which will then run the image through their algorithm for assessment. If needed, their panel dermatologist will do an additional check.
- Receive a quick assessment of the skin spot and next-steps recommendation.

Skin cancer: New Zealand’s most common and deadliest cancer
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand and accounts for around 80% of new cancer diagnoses each year.
Our melanoma death rates are the highest in the world, driven by three key environmental factors:
- Intense UV Radiation: Our geographic location places us directly under the ozone hole, exposing us to exceptionally high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
- Clear Skies: Unlike countries with urban smog that can filter UV rays, New Zealand’s clean, clear air offers little protection from the sun.
- Proximity to the Sun: During summer, the Earth’s orbit brings the southern hemisphere closer to the sun than the northern hemisphere experiences in its summer, intensifying UV exposure.
In 2022, 535 people died of skin cancer (317 deaths were from melanoma and 218 deaths from non-melanoma).
This means that more New Zealanders die each year from melanoma than on our roads.

Five minutes after the first photo, the app signalled my mole as high risk. A week later, I had my melanoma removed.Vicky
